Australia-China Young Scientists Exchange Programme

The Australian and Chinese Governments jointly fund the Young Scientists Exchange Programme (YSEP) for early to mid-career researchers. Australian involvement is supported through the Australia-China Science and Research Fund (ACSRF).

YSEP provides an opportunity for early to mid-career researchers from Australia and China to undertake a two week exchange. Successful applicants will establish linkages with a range of relevant research organisations in a structured programme and learn about the science and research environments of each country.

For the 2016 round, 16 Chinese researchers visited Australian institutions in July-August and 14 Australian researchers visited Chinese institutions in November 2016. YSEP also supported further seven Australian alumni from the 2015 exchange to have follow up visits to China in 2016.

The Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) has been engaged to run YSEP in 2017.

Aims

Annual exchanges under YSEP have occurred since 2006. YSEP aims to support future long term science, technology and innovation collaboration between Australia and China, by bringing together future science leaders from both countries to foster long term relationships.

It also aims to help early and mid-career Australian and Chinese researchers develop their expertise in international collaboration, by increasing their understanding of the cultures of the two countries, the science and research practices and systems of the two countries, and by providing a catalyst for future collaboration.
