Fourth US-Australia Joint Commission Meeting on Science and Technology

The Fourth United States – Australia Joint Commission Meeting on Science and Technology (JCM) took place on 26 March 2018, at the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science in Canberra.

The meeting was attended by representatives from Australian and US government agencies and research organisations, with discussion covering a wide range of innovation, science and technology challenges and opportunities to collaborate.

Topics included health research, enabling technologies, quantum, critical minerals, invasive species, earth and marine observation, and encouraging more girls and women to choose to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to pursue STEM and entrepreneurial careers.

The discussion had a strong focus on working together on challenges and opportunities bilaterally and regionally.

The JCM was followed by a public diplomacy panel discussion at the Australian National University (ANU), moderated by ANU Vice Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt. The event showcased the achievements and benefits of the Australia-US partnership on innovation, science and technology.
